“Zungenbrecher” is Karina Papp’s debut novel and translation in one. Written in Russian, English, and German and published in German, the writing and translation processes are closely intertwined in this book. The result is a unique poetics that captivates the reader in a way that is both gentle and painful.
Karina Papp is an author and translator born in 1988 in Latvia. She studied journalism and literature in Russia. She has lived in Berlin since 2013. In her pursuit of interlingual and politically conscious literary forms, Karina combines writing with translation. She has received several DÜF Radial scholarships for translators. Her texts have been published in the literary magazines Neznanie, m ZIN, and Soft Eis Magazine. “Zungenbrecher” is her first novel.
